Travel Tracks: Brazil

If you have ever been to Brazil, chances are that you have heard a lot of “Sertanejo,” which loosely translates to “Brazilian country music.” Its popularity is (unfortunately) mostly contained to country borders, but back in 2012 much of Europe got a taste of it. Michel Teló with “Ai se eu te Pego!” and Gusttavo Lima with “Balada (Tchê Tcherere Tchê Tchê)” captivated international audiences with their sunny vibes.

Travel Tracks: Germany

Germany, Austria or Switzerland? For this week’s Travel Tracks I could have gone with either country. “Was Du Liebe Nennst” happens to be massively popular in all these three countries right now. As Bausa is from Germany, I went with his home country. After Italy and the Netherlands, this is the third week in a row that Travel Tracks features a rapper.

Travel Tracks: Netherlands

After last week’s trip to Italy, we are going to the Netherlands today with another rapper. Ronnie Flex is a big part of the ever-growing wave of Dutch rap/hip-hop (Nederhop) acts. It’s great to see such a resurgence of national music in the charts. “Blijf Bij Mij” features guest vocals from Maan, who herself is a rising star after winning the Dutch version of The Voice. If the bit that Maan sings sounds vaguely familiar to you, then you are right. It’s based on “Dilemma” by Nelly and Kelly.

For the homestretch of the Brewer’s Advent Calendar 2017, I present to you the 10 remaining beers. On the last days before Christmas I harvested ales, several Märzen, Festbier, Dunkelweizen, Helles, Zwickelbier and dark bock. Let’s take a look at the eclectic collection of beers, before the Advent calendar makes its way to the recycling bin.

This one is dedicated to all those songs that ruled the airwaves and playlists in 2017. Earworms can be hits, cloying creations, musical waste that you just can’t get out of your head, or in some cases, masterpieces. Whether they are good or not, I’ll let you be the judge.

In no particular order, check out the 17 biggest earworms of 2017, and while you are at it, find my contribution to the Top Albums of 2017 here.

December is here, so that means that I started opening the cardboard doors on this year’s Brewer’s Advent Calendar from Costco.

The coming weeks I will give you an overview of the beers that are in the calendar, and what they are like. I am not claiming to be a connoisseur, so I won’t get too technical in describing the beer.

All 24 beers in the box are German, and come in 16.9 oz. (500 ml) cans.

These three beers started off the Advent.

There is something about being rewarded for patience and opening small squares. One of my fondest childhood holiday memories include the Advent calendar. The one I had was filled with chocolates, so every day I would open one of the doors, and allow myself that breakfast* of champions.
