Germany and A Lullaby That Rocks

Travel Tracks: Germany

Germany, Austria or Switzerland? For this week’s Travel Tracks I could have gone with either country. “Was Du Liebe Nennst” happens to be massively popular in all these three countries right now. As Bausa is from Germany, I went with his home country. After Italy and the Netherlands, this is the third week in a row that Travel Tracks features a rapper.

Newcomer Bausa proves that the rap and hip-hop scene in Europe is alive and well. The accompanying video is a shameless and purposeful ode to American rappers, and to Young Thug in particular. Nevertheless, just like Ronnie Flex for the Dutch, Bausa is considered the next best rap thing for German-speaking countries. Time will tell if he can cross language barriers in his conquest, but the English subtitles in the music video for “Was Du Liebe Nennst,” hint in that direction.

Shuffle Surprise

R.I.P Chris Cornell. “Only These Words” is from Cornell’s last studio album. If you are only familiar with his Soundgarden and Audioslave material, then this track may come as a surprise. Expect a mid-tempo vulnerable lullaby, driven by acoustic guitar, from a father singing to his daughter(s).

Born and raised in the Netherlands, I now call the Midwest my home. When I am not traveling or writing, you may spot me enjoying a game of football (soccer), sporting the color orange or drinking too much coffee.
