Travel Tracks: Brazil
If you have ever been to Brazil, chances are that you have heard a lot of “Sertanejo,” which loosely translates to “Brazilian country music.” Its popularity is (unfortunately) mostly contained to country borders, but back in 2012 much of Europe got a taste of it. Michel Teló with “Ai se eu te Pego!” and Gusttavo Lima with “Balada (Tchê Tcherere Tchê Tchê)” captivated international audiences with their sunny vibes.
Lima has been releasing albums and singles in rapid succession in Brazil, and today’s song is from his live album “Buteco do Gusttavo Lima.” The song title, “Apelido Carinhoso,” means “affectionate nickname.” Interesting statistic: Five out of Gusttavo Lima’s eight albums are live records.
Shuffle Surprise
Admittedly, I did not pay much attention to Talking Heads when they were in their heyday. However, recently I gained a renewed interest in this quirky ensemble from New York. Their mix of punk, pop, new-wave and funk with psychedelic lyrics from David Byrne, is at the very least “unusual.” The charismatic frontman recently commented on a potential Talking Heads reunion. But before you get your hopes up, it does not seem very likely, according to this Rolling Stone interview.
