France and As You May Have Heard on TV

Travel Tracks: France

Madame Monsieur will represent France with “Mercy” at the Eurovision Song Contest 2018, which will be held in Lisbon, Portugal, this May. The song points our attention to the European refugee crisis, but focuses on hope instead of hopelessness. “Mercy” refers to the baby girl that was born on a migrant rescue ship while at sea in the Mediterranean.

It will be interesting to see how France will be doing at the Eurovision, since the contest is not known for its (lyrically) challenging entries. Will the voters be swayed by the story behind the song?

Shuffle Surprise

Another American band in Shuffle Surprise this week, and this time from San Diego. Augustana may be best known to viewers of shows such as “The Big Bang Theory” and “Scrubs,” as their song “Boston” was featured on those TV hits. Maybe they peaked too early, because the second album “Can’t Love, Can’t Hurt” did not deliver comparable success. Judge for yourself, as the song “Dust” is from that sophomore effort.

At the end of 2011 Augustana continued as a one-man band, consisting of Dan Layus. A few summers later, Layus started using his own name, therefore abandoning the “Augustana” name.
